How many skin booster sessions do you need

A clear guide to how many skin booster sessions most people need, how far apart they are and how often to top up afterwards.

One of the first things people ask me about skin boosters is how many sessions they will need. It is a fair question. Unlike some treatments, skin boosters work gradually. Most people need a short course to start with and then the odd top-up to keep things going.

The exact number depends on the product, the condition of your skin and what you would like to improve. Here is how it usually works for the boosters I offer in Addlestone.

Why one session is rarely enough

Skin boosters are not fillers. They do not add volume in one go. Instead they hydrate the skin and encourage it to repair and renew itself over a few weeks. Each session builds on the last. That is why a course gives a better result than a single appointment for most people.

Typical courses by product

Profhilo (face or neck)

Usually two sessions four weeks apart. Many people then have a maintenance session every six months or so, although this varies from person to person.

Plenhyage XL Strong polynucleotides

Usually two to four sessions spaced three to four weeks apart. Maintenance is typically every six to nine months.

Nucleofill under-eye polynucleotides

The under-eye area tends to need a little more patience. A course is usually three to five sessions two to four weeks apart.

Jalupro Super Hydro

Usually two to three sessions three to six weeks apart. Results tend to show between four and twelve weeks after starting. Maintenance is usually every six to twelve months.

Seventy Hyal

Usually two to three sessions four weeks apart with maintenance every six to twelve months.

What affects the number you need

These are guides rather than fixed rules. A few things can mean you need more or fewer sessions:

  • Your age and how much natural collagen your skin still makes
  • Sun damage, smoking and lifestyle factors
  • How dry or thin your skin is to begin with
  • The area being treated, as the eyes and neck often need more care
  • How your skin responds after the first session

I will always look at your skin in person and talk this through before suggesting a plan. If you only need two sessions, that is all I will recommend.

When will you see results

Some people notice their skin looks fresher and more hydrated within a couple of weeks. The bigger changes in texture and firmness usually take longer as the skin rebuilds. Most people see the fullest result a few weeks after their final session of the course. Results vary and nobody can promise a set outcome.

Keeping results going

Your skin carries on ageing after a course, so maintenance sessions help hold on to the improvement. Looking after your skin at home makes a real difference too. Daily sun protection, a gentle routine and not smoking all help your results last.

A quick word on side effects

Skin boosters are generally well tolerated. You may have small raised bumps, redness, tenderness or bruising where the injections went in. These usually settle within a day or two, though bruising can take a little longer. I will go through everything with you before we start.
