Which skin booster is right for you: a simple comparison
A plain-English comparison of Profhilo, polynucleotides, Jalupro Super Hydro and Seventy Hyal to help you understand which might suit your skin.
There are a lot of skin boosters on the market now. It is easy to feel confused by the names. I offer six options at my clinic in Addlestone. Each one does a slightly different job.
This guide gives you a simple overview. It is not a substitute for a consultation, as the right choice depends on your skin, your health and what you would like to change.
Profhilo for face and neck
Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid treatment. It spreads under the skin to hydrate it deeply and support the skin's own collagen and elastin. It is often chosen for skin that looks a little dull, dry or lax.
- Usually two sessions four weeks apart
- Can be used on the face or neck
- Small bumps after treatment are normal and usually settle within a day
Plenhyage XL Strong polynucleotides
Polynucleotides are made from purified DNA fragments, usually from fish. They are designed to support the skin's natural repair processes. People often consider them for thinner skin, fine lines, crepiness and uneven texture.
- Usually two to four sessions three to four weeks apart
- Maintenance typically every six to nine months
- Not suitable for anyone with a fish allergy
Nucleofill under-eye polynucleotides
This is a polynucleotide product designed for the delicate skin under the eyes. It can help with crepey texture and a tired look. It does not fill hollows in the way a filler would.
- Usually three to five sessions two to four weeks apart
- Some puffiness or bruising afterwards is common in this area
Jalupro Super Hydro
Jalupro Super Hydro combines hyaluronic acid with amino acids and peptides. It is often chosen for skin that needs hydration along with support for firmness. Results tend to build over four to twelve weeks.
- Usually two to three sessions three to six weeks apart
- Maintenance usually every six to twelve months
Seventy Hyal
Seventy Hyal is a hyaluronic acid based booster with a strong focus on hydration. It can suit people whose main concern is dry, tired-looking skin.
- Usually two to three sessions four weeks apart
- Maintenance usually every six to twelve months
A rough guide to choosing
Everyone is different, but as a starting point:
- Dull, dry skin with a little laxity often suits Profhilo or Seventy Hyal
- Thin or crepey skin may respond well to polynucleotides
- Crepiness under the eyes is where Nucleofill is designed to help
- Skin needing hydration plus firmness may suit Jalupro Super Hydro
- Loose skin on the neck can be helped by Profhilo neck
Sometimes the best plan uses more than one product. For example, someone might have Profhilo for the face and Nucleofill for the eyes. We would always space treatments sensibly.
What skin boosters cannot do
Skin boosters improve skin quality. They do not lift heavy sagging or replace lost volume in the way filler does. They will not stop expression lines in the way anti-wrinkle treatment can either. Being honest about this helps you choose the right treatment from the start.
Side effects
All injectable skin boosters can cause redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. These are usually short lived. Rarer risks such as infection or allergic reaction will be discussed with you before treatment. Results vary between people.
