Why a consultation always comes first

Why every aesthetic treatment should start with a proper consultation and what happens during a free 15-minute consultation at Lucy's Beauty Lounge.

Every treatment I offer starts with a consultation. That applies to skin boosters, dermal filler and anti-wrinkle treatment alike. Some people are surprised by this and would like to be treated straight away. I understand that, but a proper consultation is one of the most important parts of safe aesthetic care.

It keeps you safe

Injectable treatments are medical procedures. Before any of them I need to know about your health. During your consultation I will ask about:

  • Any medical conditions, past or present
  • Medicines and supplements you take
  • Allergies, including to fish, lidocaine or other ingredients
  • Previous aesthetic treatments and how you responded
  • Whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy

Some of these can mean a treatment is not suitable or needs to wait. It is far better to find that out at the start.

It helps us understand what you want

People often come in asking for a particular product they have read about. Sometimes that is right for them. Other times the concern they describe would be better helped by something else. A consultation gives us time to talk about what is bothering you and what you hope to see.

I will look at your skin and facial features in person. Good lighting and a face-to-face chat tell me far more than a photo ever could.

It sets realistic expectations

I would never want anyone to leave disappointed. During the consultation I will explain what a treatment can and cannot do. We will talk about how long results usually take to show, how long they tend to last and how many sessions you might need. Results vary from person to person. I will always be honest about that.

It covers side effects and risks

All injectables carry some risk. Common side effects include swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising. Rarer complications can happen too. I will go through these clearly so you can make an informed decision.

Anti-wrinkle treatment needs a prescriber

Anti-wrinkle injections are a prescription-only medicine in the UK. This means suitability must be decided at a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber before treatment can go ahead. This is a legal requirement and an important safety step.

It gives you time to think

You should never feel rushed into treatment. After your consultation you are welcome to go away and think about it. Ask questions, read the information and come back when you feel ready. A good practitioner will always respect that.

My consultations are free and last around 15 minutes. You can book through Fresha. We will chat about your concerns, I will look at your skin and we will talk through any suitable options. There is no obligation to book a treatment afterwards.

If you are curious about any treatment, the best first step is a relaxed chat. You are welcome to book a free 15-minute consultation with me in Addlestone whenever suits you.
