Under-eye polynucleotides (Nucleofill) for dark circles and fine lines
Nucleofill is a polynucleotide treatment for the delicate under-eye area. Here is how it can help with dark circles, crepey skin and fine lines.
The under-eye area is one of the first places people notice tiredness. Even after a good night's sleep, dark circles and fine lines can make us look worn out. This is one of the most common concerns I hear in clinic.
Nucleofill is a polynucleotide treatment designed for this delicate area. Here is what you need to know.
Why the under-eye area is tricky
The skin under the eyes is very thin. It has little fat beneath it and moves every time we blink or smile. This makes it prone to fine lines, crepey texture and a darker tone where blood vessels show through.
Many people assume filler is the answer for tired eyes. For some people it can be. For many others, filler is not ideal in this area because the skin is so thin. A skin booster that improves the quality of the skin can be a gentler option.
What Nucleofill is
Nucleofill contains polynucleotides. These are purified fragments of DNA, usually from fish. They are thought to support the skin's own repair processes and encourage collagen production. They also help with hydration.
Over time this can help the under-eye skin become thicker and stronger. Thicker skin can make dark circles caused by visible vessels look less obvious.
What it can help with
- Dark circles linked to thin skin
- Crepey texture under the eyes
- Fine lines around the eye area
- A generally tired look
Nucleofill does not fill deep hollows or lift heavy bags. Dark circles caused by pigmentation or genetics may also respond less. I will be honest about what to expect at your consultation.
What treatment involves
Small amounts of product are placed carefully under the skin around the eyes. The appointment is fairly quick. Some people feel a little stinging during treatment.
The usual course is three to five sessions two to four weeks apart. The number you need depends on your skin and how it responds.
After treatment
Small bumps under the eyes are normal straight afterwards. These usually settle within a day or two. The under-eye area can bruise easily. Swelling is also common for a few days.
To help your skin settle:
- Avoid eye makeup for around 12 hours
- Skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours
- Sleep with your head slightly raised the first night if you are prone to swelling
- Avoid rubbing your eyes
Infection and allergic reactions are rare but possible. Nucleofill is not suitable for anyone with a fish allergy. It is also not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
When results appear
Results are gradual. Most people start to notice brighter, smoother skin a few weeks into the course. The effect builds over the following weeks. Results vary from person to person.
Looking after your eyes at home
Treatment works best alongside good habits. Daily sun protection, a gentle eye cream and enough sleep all help. I am always happy to give you some tips.
