Choosing a qualified and insured aesthetics practitioner in Surrey
Practical tips for choosing a safe, qualified and insured aesthetics practitioner in Surrey, plus the warning signs worth looking out for.
Choosing who treats your face is a big decision. In the UK, aesthetics is still not as tightly regulated as many people expect. That means it is worth taking a little time to check who you are booking with.
Here are the things I would look for if I were choosing a practitioner in Surrey.
Check training and insurance
Your practitioner should be properly trained in the treatments they offer. They should also hold insurance that covers those specific treatments. It is perfectly reasonable to ask about both. A good practitioner will be happy to answer.
Ask about prescribing
Anti-wrinkle injections are a prescription-only medicine in the UK. Suitability must be decided at a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber. Be wary of anyone offering anti-wrinkle treatment without this step or over a quick phone call.
Look for a proper consultation
A thorough consultation is a sign of a careful practitioner. They should ask about your medical history, medicines and allergies. They should explain the possible side effects and give you time to think before treatment.
Ask about the products
You are entitled to know exactly what will be injected. Reputable practitioners use genuine products bought from approved UK suppliers. It is fine to ask the product name and how it is stored.
Ask how complications are managed
Complications are uncommon, but they can happen with any injectable. A safe practitioner will have a plan for dealing with them. They should be able to explain what aftercare support they offer and how to contact them if you are worried.
Check the setting
Treatments should take place in a clean, professional environment. Hygiene matters with any injection. Be cautious about treatments offered at parties or in settings where proper hygiene is difficult.
Warning signs
A few things should make you pause:
- Pressure to book on the day or to add extra treatments
- Anti-wrinkle treatment offered without a face-to-face prescriber consultation
- No questions asked about your health
- Promises of guaranteed or permanent results
- Reluctance to tell you which product will be used
- Treatment offered to anyone under 18
Trust how you feel
You should feel listened to and comfortable asking questions. If something does not feel right, it is fine to walk away. A good practitioner will always put your safety before a booking.
